Westlake Park is at the heart of Seattle's downtown core and is an important gateway to the city. SPR and SPF are working collaboratively to update the space by Spring 2026.

"Westlake Park is the focal point of downtown, where with our great civic partner, Downtown Seattle Association, everyone comes together. We will continue to build a seminal intersection of open space, robust economic development and city pride in furtherance of the Mayor's Downtown Activation Plan and in preparation for the World Cup and a lasting legacy beyond," said AP Diaz, Seattle Parks and Recreation Superintendent. "This project exemplifies community placemaking and we have asked the Seattle Parks Foundation to partner with us in this endeavor. We encourage people to attend and participate."

This community outreach plan assembles a cross-section of residents, public agencies, businesses, property owners and community service providers to improve Westlake Park and reinvigorate Downtown Seattle's community commons. This project has the opportunity to serve families, tourists, locals, businesses, and property owners by creating a more open gathering space, modernizing the art and play infrastructure, and providing necessary amenities to encourage people to spend more time in the heart of our city.

We encourage the community to help shape the vision for the reimagined Westlake Park and share your ideas for improvements. Imagine possibilities like enhanced lighting, landscaping, a new play area, outdoor dining, concession opportunities, public art installations, and a more open, inviting plaza for gatherings.

"Westlake Park is the heart of downtown Seattle, offering access to transit, shopping, and connections to the Pike Place Market, the Waterfront and the Convention Center. While the city has transformed around the park, Westlake Park hasn't seen improvements since 1988 and we're excited to gather the community hopes and dreams for the park," said Rebecca Bear, Seattle Parks Foundation President and CEO. "We are thrilled to be launching this effort to beautify and reimagine Westlake just in time for the 2026 World Cup!"
