The Council of the European Union has announced its readiness to initiate preparations for drafting Montenegro's Accession Treaty to the European Union, as concluded during today's General Affairs Council meeting.
This milestone represents a key indicator of Montenegro's progress, as the signing and ratification of the Accession Treaty is the final step in the EU accession process.
The very fact that discussions on this matter are already underway underscores the certainty of Montenegro's eventual membership in the Union.
The momentum of Euro-optimism generated by Montenegro's progress is the reason why we continue to receive such positive news on an almost daily basis.
It is therefore crucial to maintain this dedicated effort and achieve even more notable successes in the first quarter of the coming year.
EU leaders will be invited to endorse these conclusions at the Summit scheduled for 19 December in Brussels.
The Draft Conclusions of the Council commend Montenegro's highly positive results in fulfilling its longstanding reform commitments and applaud the Government's ambition to accelerate the country's progress toward EU membership.
At the same time, all political actors are encouraged to align behind an ambitious plan to successfully conclude the accession negotiations.
