U.S 101 and I-80 Emergency Barrier Rail Repairs continue in San Francisco starting Saturday, November 9th at 10 PM

Construction work will continue throughout the month of November

San Francisco - Caltrans is continuing emergency barrier rail repairs on U.S. 101 and Interstate 80 in San Francisco starting November 9 at 10 PM. The closures are necessary to allow crews to continue making emergency repairs to replace damaged concrete barrier and tubular railing on connectors due to vehicle collisions over the years. Motorists will experience delays and are urged to use alternate routes.

The upcoming repairs are the next in a series of repairs that began in September on the Central freeway this year. The repairs will require full, and partial lane closures as described below:

  • Saturday, November 9, 10 PM to Monday November 11, 9 AM (35 hours):
    -Westbound I-80 to Southbound U.S. 101 Central Freeway connector ramp closed. Detours are provided.
    -Southbound U.S 101 on ramp from eastbound 10th & northbound Bryant St. closed.
  • Sunday, November 17, 12:01 AM to Sunday November 17, 11:59 PM (24 hours):
    -Westbound I-80 to Northbound U.S. 101 connector ramp closed.
    -Southbound U.S. 101 Central Freeway on ramp at 7th and Harrison St. closed.
  • Monday, November 18, 9 PM to Tuesday, November 19, 6 AM (8 hours):
    -Two of four lanes will be closed on Westbound I-80 to Southbound U.S. 101 connector camp near 15th St.
  • Tuesday, November 19, 10 PM to Wednesday, November 20, 6 AM (8 hours):
    -Two of three lanes will be closed on Eastbound I-80 near 15th St.
  • Wednesday, November 20, 10 PM to Thursday, November 21, 6 AM (8 hours):
    -Two of three lanes will be closed on Eastbound I-80 near 15th St.
  • Sunday, November 24, 10 PM to Monday, November 25, 6 AM (8 hours):
    -Two of three lanes will be closed on Eastbound I-80 near 7th St.

Driving southbound U.S. 101 toward San Jose:

  1. Take connector off ramp to eastbound I-80.
  2. Exit at 4th St. off ramp.
  3. Turn left to Bryant St.
  4. Turn right onto 3rd St.
  5. Drive to Harrison St. and take the westbound I-80/southbound U.S. 101 on ramp to join freeway.

Traffic Control Measures:

Changeable messages and directional signs will be in place to assist motorists traveling in the area. During the closures, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) will be at the sites. Please drive with caution. Caltrans thanks motorists for their patience while we work to maintain our state's highways, bridges, and tunnels.
