Defendant Convicted of Forcible Sexual Assaults on Child and Adult

DATE: August 19, 2024

CASE: Carl Nelson (Case #24FE004035)

PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Wynn (Nguyen) Tran, Special Assault & Child Abuse Unit

On August 14, 2024, Carl Nelson was convicted by a jury of three counts of forcible lewd acts upon a child, four counts of lewd acts upon a child and forcible oral copulation. The jury found true allegations of multiple child victims and a victim under the age of 14.

In September 2017, Nelson forced an adult male victim to orally copulate him at gun point. He then told the victim that if he ever told anyone, he would find him and kill him. In February 2024, a second victim disclosed to law enforcement that Nelson molested her when she was between the ages of 6 and 11 years old. Nelson held the victim at times and told her not to tell anyone.

An allegation that Nelson has a prior strike conviction for burglary will be determined at the sentencing hearing.

Nelson faces a maximum sentence of 385 years to life in prison. Sentencing is set for October 25, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. in Department 12 before the Honorable Maryanne Gilliard.
