Joint Committee on Environment and Climate Action to discuss long-duration energy storage with Energy Storage Ireland

24 Jun 2024, 14:55

The Joint Committee on Environment and Climate Action will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 25 June, to discuss the issue of long-duration energy storage with representatives of Energy Storage Ireland (ESI).

Ahead of the meeting at 11am in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Brian Leddin said: "As Ireland transitions from reliance on fossil fuels to wind and solar power for power generation, energy storage technologies have a vital role to play in decarbonising Ireland's electricity sector.

"The Committee looks forward to hearing the views of ESI, the representative body for the energy storage industry across the island Ireland, on how its member companies can help deliver the technologies needed to support Ireland's Climate Action Plan and enable a secure, carbon free electricity system on the island by 2035."

The Joint Committee on Environment and Climate Action has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on OireachtasTV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
