Ice Cream Social returns Aug. 11 to Former Governors' Mansion

BISMARCK, N.D. - The annual Ice Cream Social, a free family program of music, history, and refreshments, will be held Sunday, Aug. 11, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Former Governors' Mansion State Historic Site, Bismarck. Seating will be available, but the public is welcome to bring lawn chairs or blankets. This event is sponsored by the State Historical Society of North Dakota and the Society for the Preservation of the Former Governors' Mansion.
This year's event celebrates the history of the West and the people and places connected to the history of the site. The mansion is open for self-guided tours during the social. Throughout the afternoon, attendees can enjoy free hotdogs, ice cream, and pie.  
Theo Art School is providing face painting from noon to 3 p.m. Children can also participate in lawn games and receive free potted flowers while supplies last.
Entertainment on the west lawn includes the following:

  • 12:30 p.m. Music by Coleen Reinhardt and Friends
  • 1 p.m. VFW, Presentation of the Colors
    Remembering first lady Grace Link
  • 1:30 p.m. Joe Wiegand as President Theodore Roosevelt
  • 2:15 p.m. Music by Coleen Reinhardt and Friends
  • 3 p.m. Strolling Strings

The Former Governors' Mansion, 320 East Ave. B, Bismarck, is managed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota. Admission is free.
