EU asserts commitment to promoting Occupational Safety and Health in Malawi

The European Union in Malawi has emphasized its commitment to promoting Occupational Safety and Health aimed at fostering the achievement of decent work conditions in Malawi.

EU Charge d'affaires George Dura, made the commitment during the inaugural National Conference on Occupational Safety and Health held on the 2nd and 3rd of October 2024 in Blantyre. He said, "the EU is implementing comprehensive strategies and policies and supporting partner countries in the decent jobs agenda through interventions such as the Zantchito Skills for Jobs programme."

The conference was funded by European Union under the Zantchito Skills for Jobs programme and was held under the theme "Promoting occupational safety and health: towards vision zero" which is in line with the Vision Zero Concept, a global transformative approach for prevention of occupational accidents and diseases.

The decent work component of the Zantchito Skills for Jobs Programme in collaboration with the Ministry of labour organised the conference to provide a platform for exchange of experience, practices and expert knowledge in the management of OSH hazards and risks in the world of work.
