East Coast Dockworker Strike Ends

The East Coast dockworkers strike ended late this week with both sides reaching a "tentative agreement on wages." The two sides extended their current contract through January 15, 2025 and will continue to negotiate a long-term agreement. The strike, which went into effect early this week, put in jeopardy agricultural exports ranging from soybeans and cotton to meat and poultry products. Overall, the shutdown impacted $1.4 billion in weekly agricultural trade according to economists from the American Farm Bureau Federation. Throughout the week, Nebraska Farm Bureau spoke to members of Nebraska media and members trying to highlight the severe impact of the strike and the need to end it as quickly as possible.
