There have recently been nationwide reports of fake Notices of Electronic Filing (NEF) being sent to attorneys and law firms. The fake NEFs are phishing attempts. The sender tries to convince the recipient to reply to the email. If the recipient replies, a follow-up email is sent containing a link to a document. Clicking on the link leads to a malicious website. Please take caution if you receive an NEF, particularly in a case in which you would not expect to receive such a notice. You can verify if the NEF is legitimate by going directly to CM/ECF to validate the case and case documentation. Do not download any attachments or click any links from unofficial or questionable sources.
