The Lincoln Journal-Star reported that NEXAT, a German agricultural machinery manufacturer, has chosen York County for its first U.S. service location. NEXATS are "all-in-one" crop production machines that are nearly autonomous . . . The Center for Agriculture Profitability at the University of Nebraska has released the 2024 Nebraska Custom Rates Report. The report compiles survey data from 159 respondents providing current market rates for 138 different custom operations and services across Nebraska . . . Economists at the Federal Reserve Bank at Kansas City report that non-real estate farm loans at commercial banks ended the first quarter nearly 15 percent higher than a year ago, the largest increase since the late 1970s . . . Egg-laying hens in Nebraska in May totaled 8.5 million, up 600,000 hens from the previous year according to the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service. Egg production in the same month was 216 million eggs, up 20 million from 2023 . . . Bloomberg's Sanne Wass reported Denmark will introduce a $43 per ton of CO2 levy on farm emissions in what could be the world's first carbon taxes on agriculture.
