Visualizing the Eucharist

The Department of Catholic Studies invites you to attend Professor Father Joseph Bertha's lecture on Visualizing the Eucharist at 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 22, in the University Center-Event Room. During this year of the Eucharist, Father Bertha, will explain how the liturgy is visualized at a local Roman Catholic Church by the eminent Irish Stained-Glass artist and studios of Harry Clarke, Dublin.

Father Joseph Bertha holds a Ph.D. in art history and serves Saint John the Baptist Church in Bayonne (Blessed Miriam Teresa's birth parish) and Saint Mary's Church in Jersey City.

In his lecture, he will explain how the liturgy is visualized through the glorious glass of the Harry Clarke Studios at Saint Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church in Bayonne, New Jersey. Nine windows at the church portray the nine orders of angels, and liturgy windows illustrate the Eucharist with Old Testament pre-figures. The lecture will include references to historical figures from the Newark Archdiocese.
