A maritime exercise in the Black Sea? An off-road driving course in Poland? Or maybe a rescue of a turtle trapped in a fishing net in Spain? In August, Frontex officers managed a whole range of challenges. Take a look at last month's stories from the field!

Maritime exercise in the Black Sea

Frontex, along with the Romanian Border Police and European Maritime Safety Agency successfully held a multipurpose maritime exercise in the Black Sea.

This exercise brought together six Romanian boats and other maritime assets and one from the Bulgarian Border Police to enhance our search and rescue capabilities and improve coordination in coast guard functions.

Our Deputy Executive Director, Lars Gerdes, participated in the exercise, highlighting our ongoing commitment to saving lives and ensuring maritime safety. Together, we're stronger and more prepared to respond to emergencies at sea.

Off-road driving training in Poland

Frontex officers were trained by the Polish Border Guard in a practical offroad session testing and improving their driving techniques and tactics.

As the new Frontex cars - Ford Ranger Raptors - will soon patrol the EU external borders on and off the beaten track, the EU border guards are getting ready to make full and efficient use of these extremely capable all-terrain vehicles which require excellent driving and appropriate maintenance.

Watchsome of the challenges faced by Frontex new Raptors and their drivers in the training session which took place in Kętrzyn, Poland.

Turtle caught in a fishing net in Spain

One lucky turtle!

While safeguarding our borders, our officers keep their eyes and hearts open. The crew of the Portuguese ship Bojador taking part in Frontex operation in Spain spotted a victim of a maritime pollution - a turtle caught in a fishing net.

Wasting no time, they rushed to help and managed to free the animal from the entrapment.
