SEIU’s Verrett: Tonight’s debate further confirms the Harris-Walz ticket is a winner for working families

WASHINGTON, DC - Service Employees International Union (SEIU) President April Verrett released the following statement following tonight's vice presidential debate between Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and U.S. Sen. JD Vance:

"If there was ever a doubt, tonight's debate made one thing crystal clear: Tim Walz honors our democracy. JD Vance honors Donald Trump.

Debate viewers saw that Governor Walz truly understands the challenges working people face in their day-to-day lives. He knows how difficult it can be for working parents to manage the high costs of everyday expenses, and showed that he and Vice President Harris would invest in our care economy to ensure that everyone who needs child care, disability care or elder care can afford it and also that these jobs need to be good, union jobs with living wages. As a former teacher, he knows public education must be an investment we make in our future, not something leaders should attempt to dismantle. Governor Walz recognizes why unions are critical to empowering workers with fair wages, benefits and a strong voice at their jobs and in their communities.

Meanwhile, Senator Vance showed us that he and Donald Trump will continue to lie about elections, and remain staunchly wedded to corporate interests and their sinister Project 2025 Agenda. SEIU members are standing together with allies across the country tonight to say, 'We're not going back.' We're committed to knocking on doors, making phone calls, and getting out the vote for the Harris-Walz Campaign because working people will decide who wins this November."
