7/26/24 Aggravated Battery with a Firearm

(PEORIA, IL) Thursday, July 25, 2024, at approximately 8:55 p.m. Peoria Police were dispatched to the 1300 block of SW Jefferson on two Shot Spotter alerts. The first alert indicated 20 shots fired. The second alert was for 13 rounds fired.

A short time later officers were informed that an adult male victim (20 years old) was transported to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. The victim's injuries are non-life-threatening.

During the course of this investigation, officers used a License Plate Reader (LPR) to locate the vehicle associated with the shooting suspect.

At approximately 3:27 a.m. on Friday, July 26, 2024, police conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle near Main Street and University. Officers detained the four male occupants inside.

During a search of the vehicle police located a firearm and two magazines inside.

26-year-old Dayshaun S. Smullin was transported to the Peoria Police Department for interviewing purposes and subsequently arrested for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm. The other occupants were released on the scene.

This incident remains under investigation.
