Lecture invitation: Femi(ni)cides in Austria and transnational resistance

Lecture invitation: Femi(ni)cides in Austria and transnational resistance

In an EU comparison, more murders of women than of men were documented in Austria between 2016 and 2018. A 2018 survey recorded that 82,5% of women were murdered by an intimate partner or family member. Thus, gender based violence is still a major problem in Austrian society.

The activist and social scientist Marcela Torres Heredia is part of the feminist network "Claim the Space" and the authors' collective Biwi Kefempom, which published the book "Femi(ni)zide: Kollektiv patriarchale Gewalt bekämpfen" (translation in English: Femi(ni)cides: Collectively Fighting Patriarchal Violence). In this Global Space, she will address key concepts in the study of femi(ni)cides and explain their structural and intersectional relationships to violence. In doing so, she will refer to historical and transnational debates, forms of protest and remembrance and explore the possibilities of collective, solidary fights against patriarchal violence.
