The Union Pacific railroad is building a new intermodal terminal in Kansas City to provide domestic and international containerized shipments of grains, consumer goods, refrigerated products, and pet foods. Union Pacific transports about 1.3 billion bushels of grain annually, with exports accounting for between 30-40% of those shipments . . . An economic impact report released by the U.S. Poultry and Egg Association shows Nebraska's poultry industry was responsible for $13.09 billion in total economic activity and 31,733 total jobs . . . The USDA Economic Research Service reports agricultural imports accounted for 6.3% of the total value of U.S. imports in 2023. The bulk of U.S. imports fall into three categories-consumer goods, capital goods, and industrial supplies . . . Elaine Watson of AgFunderNews reported that Israeli startup Chunk Foods is launching its plant-based steaks in the U.S. retail market at independent retailers in Los Angeles and New York City and eyeing an e-commerce launch before the end of the year.
