At about 4:50 PM, on Wednesday, August 7th, 2024, Officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Michael McGee, 19, of Fall River, for an arrest warrant as well as firearm and trespassing offences during a subject stop at 62 Orlando St, Mattapan.

Officers were patrolling the streets surrounding Almont Park to enhance police visibility and the safety of those practicing sports and enjoying the park. During their patrol, Officers were traveling onto Orlando St. when their attention was drawn to three individuals walking on Orlando St. towards the direction of Officers. As Officers and the individuals gradually came closer to each other, and the individuals became aware of the police presence, Officers observed a change in their behavior and observed one of the individuals that was wearing a backpack break away from the group, traveling into a nearby backyard.

Officers began an investigation into the individual who had left the group and located him standing in the backyard of 62 Orlando St. As Officers positioned themselves to get a better view, they recognized him as Michael McGee and were aware that he had an active warrant for his arrest. Officers stopped McGee and placed him in custody for the warrant, but could not locate the backpack he was wearing when they first saw him. Officers requested K-9 Officers with dogs trained in firearm detection to respond and assist in their search for the backpack.

Officers and their K-9 counterparts responded to assist and during their search, K-9 Juno had a positive alert on a backpack located in the rear of a neighboring backyard indicating the presence of a firearm. Officers further investigated the backpack and recovered two firearms from inside of it.

B-3 Detectives responded and determined that the backpack contained a Smith and Wesson M&P 40 firearm loaded with ten (10) cartridges, and a Glock 34 9mm firearm loaded with sixteen (16) cartridges.

Michael McGee was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court for two counts of Possession of a Firearm Without an FID Card, two counts of Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Firearm Without a License (2nd Subsequent Offense), and Trespassing.
