WASHINGTON-Today, U.S. Helsinki Commission Chairman Joe Wilson (SC-02) expressed his support for Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili and the Georgian people as President Zourabichvili was joined by Georgian opposition parties in rejecting the results of this weekend's parliamentary elections and calling for protests across Georgia today.

"Yesterday, President Zourabichvili was joined by members of the Georgian opposition to announce to the world that Georgia's parliamentary election results were illegitimate, call on the Georgian people to take to the streets and protest, and ask for the international community's support as they fight to save their democracy and chosen path to Euro-Atlantic integration," Chairman Wilson said. "I stand with President Zourabichvili and the Georgian people in this fight and warn the Georgian Dream government against using violence to silence protestors. The world is watching."
