EUDA gets set for Lisbon Addictions 2024

EUDA staff members will be among the 2 000 participants gathering from 23-25 October in Lisbon at the European Conference on Addictive Behaviours and Dependencies (Lisbon Addictions 2024).

Under the overarching theme of 'Empowering the workforce of the future', the event will showcase the latest scientific knowledge in this domain and explore challenges relating to illicit drugs, alcohol, tobacco, screen addiction, gambling and other addictive behaviours. It is the largest European conference in the area of addictions.

The conference, now in its fifth edition, is organised by: the Portuguese Institute on Addictive Behaviours and Dependencies, P.I. (ICAD, I.P.); the European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA); the journal Addiction/Society for the Study of Addiction (Addiction/SSA); and the International Society of Addiction Journal Editors (ISAJE). President of ICAD, João Goulão and EUDA Executive Director, Alexis Goosdeel, will speak at the official opening of the event.

In the course of the conference, over 600 presentations will be given in 170 sessions. EUDA presentations will cover a broad range of topics, including: advancing addiction research, gender and drugs, the medical use of psychedelic substances and opioid market developments (see full list of EUDA staff presentations). EUDA staff will also be participating in a series of side events held in the margins of the main conference.

EUDA presentations will be delivered in various formats and settings, including plenaries, oral presentations and workshops. One of the workshops will be on developing scenarios in the addictions field in the context of the agency's work in developing foresight expertise. During the conference participants will be invited to contribute to the EUDA Futures Exercise through a survey.

Once again, a 'co-production' approach has been used to shape the conference programme around eight thematic tracks. The EUDA is the co-producer of the Open track. (Listen to the Open track podcast).

This year, for the first time, the EUDA is coordinating a dedicated programme for Early Career Researchers (ECRs) at the event. This initiative aims to inspire and empower young scientists through the exchange of ideas and access to career-enhancing information. (Listen to the ECR podcast).

The EUDA will host a networking dinner on 24 October following a presentation by EUDA Executive Director Alexis Goosdeel on the work of the new agency.

Finally, an exhibition stand at the event will showcase the latest EUDA products and services. Staff members will be present on the stand to guide visitors and explore customer information needs.
