VIDEO: McCombie Calls for Harsher Penalties for People Who Hurt DCFS Workers

House Minority Leader Tony McCombie has been working on legislation for several years since the 2018 death of another DCFS worker, Pamela Knight. With last week's conviction of Benjamin Reed, found guilty on Thursday of the 2022 fatal stabbing of DCFS social worker Deidre Silas, the push continues for greater penalties against people who hurt DCFS workers.

McCombie stated that Silas' death should remind lawmakers why it's important lawmakers finally pass these bills. Despite having received bipartisan support, the bills have not received a hearing during the 2023-24 General Assembly.
