Three MSJ Art & Design Students Win WACC Scholarships

Woman's Art Club of Cincinnati (WACC) Awards Scholarships to Three MSJ Students

The Department of Creative Arts is proud to announce that the Woman's Art Club of Cincinnati (WACC) has awarded to three outstanding female juniors pursuing an art degree in Fine Arts or Art Education scholarships. The Mount St. Joseph University students submitted a portfolio of 6-8 digital images, a 300-word essay, and letters of recommendation. The essay included a short biography, why they choose the arts, how Cincinnati has shaped them as artists, and how this experience has influenced their future career. The students gathered their letters of recommendation, inventory and images on a flash drive, and essay for review.

Dahlia Baer wrote this in her essay in why she is pursuing a fine arts career, "This is to say, however, that she [my mother] has had an artistic calling since she was young, and she passed that directly down to me. Watching her draw and tattoo throughout my whole life has helped me remember that art is also my calling, and makes me want to be the first person in my household to get a college degree doing what I love."

Sophia Watson wrote, "Ever since I was a child I knew I wanted to be an artist, now that I am achieving that dream I cannot wait for my professional career."

Tori Orbegozo stated, "As a kid, I hated reading, but I want future generations to find a love for reading and drawing, especially when technology is addicting and shortening our attention spans. I want to use my skills to teach the young generations about the world and different cultures, how to be good people, respect our planet, and change lives."

The Board of the Woman's Art Club Cincinnati reviewed the materials and had a very difficult time choosing. The following Mount students received the $2,000 award scholarship over the next two years: Dahlia Baer, Victoria (Tori) Orbegozo, and Sophia Watson. Congratulations!
