House Sends Water Infrastructure Bill to President’s Desk With $60 million for Washington County Secured by Rep. Bonamici

WASHINGTON, DC [12/10/24] - Today the House sent legislation to President Joe Biden's desk that authorizes $60 million of funding secured by Representative Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01) for water infrastructure projects in Washington County.

The funding is included in the Water Resources Development Act of 2024. The combined $60 million will support the Beaverton North Transmission Line Intertie Project and Willamette Water Supply System Improvement (WWSS) Project.

Both projects will make water supply systems in Washington County more seismically resilient and will include the construction of a new water transmission main in Beaverton, a water treatment plant near the city of Sherwood, and a concrete water reservoir on Cooper Mountain. Bonamici previously secured $3 millionin Community Project Funding for the WWSS project.

"Reliable water infrastructure is critical to the wellbeing of communities," said Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici. "I'm grateful that Washington County will receive the funding I advocated for to update and upgrade water systems, help the systems withstand an earthquake, and support daily life."

The legislation also includes provisions recommended by Bonamici to support small ports, the Lower Columbia River, and safe dredging in the Columbia River Channel. It also authorizes two Army Corps of Engineers projects to assess the efficacy and cost effectiveness of using green infrastructure, bioswales, and other stormwater management practices to capture and prevent microplastic pollution in waterways, including ports, shorelines, and riverbanks.
