Waterfall Arts Announces Open Call for fall Exhibition: "I've Been Wrong Before"

Belfast, ME - July 26, 2024 - Waterfall Arts is thrilled to announce an open call for submissions for our upcoming exhibition, "I've Been Wrong Before." This exhibition will explore the themes of revisiting and revising ideas, highlighting the cyclical nature of the creative process. We invite artists of all media, ages, and backgrounds to submit their work that delves into the concept of changing one's mind, challenging preconceived notions, or revisiting past ideas or beliefs.

Exhibition Details:

• Open Call Due Date: Saturday, August 31, 2024, 11:59 PM

• Announcement of Selected Work: September 27, 2024

• Artwork Drop Off: October 8 - October 12, 2024, during office hours

• Show Opens: Saturday, October 19, 2024 (Reception details to be announced)

• Show Closes: Saturday, November 30, 2024

• Work Pickup: December 3 - December 5, 2024, during office hours

Artists are encouraged to submit a brief statement explaining how their work fits the theme, a bio, up to 5 high-res images, and a works list with relevant details. All submissions must be made through the form linked below, and we ask that no materials be submitted via email.

About the Curator:

Annika Earley, an artist based in Belfast, Maine, is the curator of "I've Been Wrong Before." Annika creates intimate works on paper that explore themes of motherhood, sensuality, sexuality, gender, and pre-teen nostalgia. Her art often references German fairy and folk tales and Spice Girls lyrics, adding a unique and personal touch to her creations.

Annika holds an MFA from Maine College of Art and an M.Phil from College of the Atlantic. She has been a resident at several prestigious art colonies, including the Ellis-Beauregard Foundation in Rockland, ME, Hewnoaks Artist Colony in Lovell, ME, and Monson Arts in Monson, ME. Annika's work is supported by various foundations, including the St. Botolph Foundation in Boston, MA, and the New York Foundation for the Arts. Her art is part of the collections at the University of Southern Maine and the College of the Atlantic.

As a curator, Annika has organized shows at Able Baker Contemporary, Speedwell Projects, and Zero Station in Portland, ME, as well as the Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockland, ME. She also runs the online curatorial platform, Cicada, which celebrates black and white art. Annika's deep understanding of art and its myriad forms makes her the perfect curator for this exhibition.
