Stormwater, Urban Forestry teams share best practices for tree care during summer heat

The City of Eugene Stormwater Education program and Urban Forestry team have created a resource for community members to help them care for the trees on their property as we move through what has traditionally been the height of summer heat.

The How to Water Your Trees resource details best practices for keeping both private trees and those in the right of way healthy and happy during warmer months. Other helpful topics cover:

  • How to water appropriately for the age of your tree
  • How to make an irrigation bucket
  • Where to place the water for maximum benefit to tree roots
  • How NOT to water your trees
  • Effective pruning and fertilizing

"Trees are very important to everyone in Eugene, and not just for their beauty and shade. They are vital to the livability of our area; they help combat climate issues; and they provide crucial filtering for stormwater, which otherwise would flow untreated into our waterways," said Stormwater Education program lead Kathy Eva.

The How to Water Your Trees brochure is available on the City's stormwater education website, which is great starting point for learning more about stormwater, natural filtration and the City's water infrastructure.
