Anera Statement Regarding Misinformation on Humanitarian Aid Distribution in Gaza

September 24, 2024 - In the past few days, libelous social media posts have circulated accusing Anera of withholding the distribution of tarpaulins and other humanitarian aid in Gaza. These claims are categorically false.

Anera unequivocally rejects any allegations that supplies have been misappropriated, withheld for profit, or diverted to commercial markets by our organization or our staff. Such unfounded rumors jeopardize the integrity of critical humanitarian efforts in one of the world's most complex and challenging environments. We cooperate fully with local stakeholders to investigate instances of diversion of aid and to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

Anera has been working diligently to provide life-saving assistance, including tents, tarpaulins, soap, and other essential items, despite the challenging conditions on the ground. We have collaborated closely with local stakeholders, including the UN Shelter Committee, to ensure that all aid is distributed rapidly, equitably and transparently, in line with our commitment to supporting displaced populations.

We strongly condemn any efforts to spread misinformation or defame humanitarian workers, especially those on the ground who risk their lives to deliver essential services to the people of Gaza. Unfounded rumors endanger the safety of our staff.

Humanitarian aid is strictly intended to support those in need, and any diversion or theft of such goods constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law. The allegations directed at Anera are not only unfounded but also harmful to our ongoing efforts to deliver critical relief to the people of Gaza.

We remain steadfast in our commitment to our humanitarian mission and will continue to collaborate closely with local committees, governments, and international organizations to ensure the fair and timely distribution of aid. Together, we must uphold the integrity of humanitarian work and reject any efforts seeking to undermine it.
