Traffic Advisory for Pavement Work on Calistoga Road for Private Development Project

Mahonia Glen, a MidPen affordable housing complex located at 5173 Highway 12, is completing a full pavement reconstruction on Calistoga Road between Highway 12 and Marit Drive. The pavement reconstruction is expected to be completed by the end of October.

The Paving work will involve grinding down and removing the existing roadway in the project area, followed by the installation of a new asphalt application. Working hours will be 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, 24-hour traffic controls will be in effect for temporary road closures within the project limits. To inform residents of the upcoming construction, digital messaging boards have been placed along Calistoga Road between Highway 12 and Marit Drive, to alert the community about potential traffic delays in the area. Although Calistoga Road will remain open to through traffic during the pavement reconstruction, motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes whenever possible to avoid delays, especially during peak commute hours.

Currently, both directions of traffic have been shifted to the northbound lanes, as the southbound lanes are closed to through traffic in preparation for paving. As a result, dedicated turn lanes have been temporarily removed, leading to significant delays, especially during peak traffic hours. In addition to repaving, the reconstruction project also includes the installation of a center median, which is expected to be poured next week, along with stormwater treatment basins, and new curb, gutter, and planter strips on the west side of Calistoga Road.

Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times throughout the construction. In the event of an emergency evacuation, the contractor will open all travel lanes for public access and safety.
When traveling in or near the construction areas, be cautious and aware of work crews, flaggers, traffic control, rough roadways, special signage, and heavy equipment. Please be prepared for temporary traffic control measures throughout the work area.

Mahonia Glen is a 100% affordable residential project consisting of 99 units, including a resident manager unit, a shared community space and large common green space. The residential units consist of one-, two- and three-bedroom units in three-story buildings. Common facilities and administrative offices are located in a single-story community building at the center of the site, and 116 parking spaces are divided between two locations. Onsite amenities include a children's play area, and areas for passive and active recreation and resident gatherings.

The 4.75-acre site is bordered by Highway 12 to the south, by Calistoga Road to the East and residential uses to the west. Austin Creek flows on the northern edge of the site bordered by a riparian zone of native oaks and bay trees. A drainage swale bisects the site running from Calistoga Road to the confluence with Austin Creek. The site gently slopes from east to west with steeper slopes adjacent to Highway 12.
