Capito Announces Congressionally Directed Spending Award to Support Greenbrier County Waterline Extension

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee and a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced an award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for Greenbrier County Public Service District (PSD) No. 2.

This award, which was secured through a Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) request made by Senator Capito in Fiscal Year 2022 (FY22), will help extend two waterlines in Greenbrier County to reach areas currently without public water service.

"Through my roles on the EPW and Appropriations Committees, I was able to authorize and secure the funding to move water infrastructure projects forward in West Virginia," Ranking Member Capito said. "This particular award will help ensure that communities in Greenbrier County have access to water for drinking and use in case of emergency. I look forward to seeing these projects completed and the benefits they will offer residents."

Award details listed below:

  • $1,500,000 EPA CDS award to Greenbrier County PSD No. 2 (Rainelle, W.Va.) for Phase II Waterline Extension. This project consists of constructing two waterline extensions to serve the area between Charmco, W.Va. and Rainelle, W.Va., as well as between Sam Black Church, W.Va. and Clintonville, W.Va. Once completed, the extensions will aim to provide public water and fire service to areas that do not currently have access.
