Around 3:05 pm on November 13, 2024, a BPD officer made a traffic stop on a vehicle with multiple occupants near S. Division Ave and W. Howe St. for a fictitious plate. During the traffic stop, a passenger in the car gave false information to officers, pulled out a knife, and fled on foot into a neighborhood near S Division Ave. BPD quickly set up a perimeter, deployed drones, and began searching for the suspect. An officer located him on Colorado Ave and attempted to approach him. The suspect refused to follow commands to get on the ground and the suspect charged at the officer with the knife. One Boise Police officer fired his duty weapon, striking the suspect.
The suspect was injured, and officers provided medical aid at the scene until Ada County Paramedics arrived and took the suspect to a local hospital. The other occupants of the vehicle remained at the traffic stop. There were no other injuries.
The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force (CITF) led by the Garden City Police Department is investigating the officer-involved shooting. The information provided in this news release is considered preliminary pending an investigation. No Boise Police officers were physically injured, and the involved officer will be placed on administrative leave, per policy.
