Training of the Month

The Bismarck Fire Department has recently conducted a structural collapse training exercise. The training aims to enhance the department's preparedness and response capabilities in the event of building collapses and other large-scale structural emergencies.

This week-long training was held at the station four training tower, where firefighters will engage in hands-on scenarios designed to simulate real-life incidents involving compromised buildings due to natural disasters, fires, or other catastrophic events. The sessions will cover key areas including:

  • Search and Rescue Operations: Training on locating and rescuing trapped victims under collapsed structures.
  • Shoring and Stabilization Techniques: Learning to stabilize weakened buildings to prevent further collapse during rescue efforts.
  • Heavy Lifting and Breaching: Utilizing specialized tools and equipment to safely remove debris and access trapped individuals.

Our primary goal is to be fully prepared for any emergency scenario that could arise in our community. Structural collapse incidents can be complex, and this training helps to ensure that the BFD is well-equipped to save lives and mitigate damage in such events.
