As winter weather can be unpredictable, the university is reminding the community about how it manages inclement weather events. Safety is the top priority.
In the event of inclement winter weather, such as snow and ice, the university assesses whether it is appropriate to operate on a normal schedule, a delayed start, early closure or full day closure. The university rarely fully closes because students live on campus, outside events are scheduled, and services must be delivered to incoming and existing students. The university makes every effort to alert the campus community of a delay or closure at its physical campus as early as possible. However, weather can be unpredictable, and alerts may be sent later than desired.
If the university has not announced a closure or delay as described above, the campus remains open.
For students and faculty:
For staff and faculty:
Employees should make a reasonable effort to report to work, however, employees are also encouraged to exercise appropriate judgment and take responsibility for their own safety. Please bear in mind that weather conditions may vary considerably across the Treasure Valley, and there will be times when the campus will remain open even when weather and driving conditions may be different in the area of the valley where an employee lives.
Employees unable to safely report to work or anticipate arriving late should contact their supervisor and request to use vacation time or work from home, if possible. Supervisors and managers are reminded to be responsive to such requests.
Campus closures remain in effect from the time the campus is officially closed until midnight unless a different schedule is announced.
For more information about the university's inclement weather guidelines, read the Inclement Weather Policy 9120 or visit the closure procedures webpage.
