Did you know that Radboud University has a student charter, which outlines important rules and guidelines for students?
As a Radboud student, you will encounter all kinds of rules and regulations during your studies. An important document to be aware of is the Student Charter.
The Student Charter describes the legal position and rights and regulations of students by means of questions and answers. The questions are grouped by topic. Each question also includes the location, or source, of a right or obligation. This means that students' rights and obligations do not derive from the descriptions in the Student Charter, but only from the regulations or sources referred to; thus, the Student Charter itself does not create any new rights for students.
The Student Charter is reviewed and re-adopted annually by the Executive Board, after approval by the University Student Council. They represent the voice of the student.
It is important that you are aware of the rules so that, on the one hand, you know what is expected of you and, on the other hand, you know what you can expect from the university. Below are some examples of topics covered in the Student Charter, among others.
The charter describes that, as a student, you are entitled to fair treatment and a safe learning environment. Should a disagreement ever arise with a teacher or the university, the charter describes what you can do with your complaint, objection or appeal.
Besides rights, as a student you also have responsibilities. The student charter helps you understand what is expected of you, and where to find this information. Among other things, the Charter describes the rules on application and admission, testing, fraud, tuition fees, etc.
The charter also describes the subject of accreditation, which means that education must meet certain quality requirements. This accreditation also ensures that your study programme allows you to obtain a government-recognised degree or diploma, and entitles you to student grants, for example.
The charter is available on the Radboud University website. Please take the time to read it through, so you are well informed about everything that matters to you. The student charter is also available as a download.
