SAN JOSE, CA - U.S. Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (CA-18), who served on the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol in the 117th Congress, issued the following statement on President-Elect Donald Trump's latest comments about the Select Committee on "Meet the Press."
"Our Select Committee lawfully provided a thorough account to the American people about what happened on January 6, 2021. We were tasked with investigating what led up to the brutal attack which had the intent to prevent the peaceful transfer of power as provided for in our Constitution, and we did so. Donald Trump's suggestion that the Justice Department should investigate and/or jail Members of Congress for our legislative work is unconstitutional, dangerous, and should be laughed at by any legitimate lawyer. Our Select Committee followed the facts and provided the American people with the truth - and while that may be an inconvenient truth for Donald Trump, it is an honest depiction of what happened. He is lying when he says otherwise. Not only did the January 6th Select Committee issue our report with detailed appendixes, we included footnotes and posted the evidence publicly. I don't think there's ever been another Congressional Select Committee that transparently provided as much extensive information as ours did.
"I continue to urge all reporters and all Americans to go to the GPO websiteand read the Committee's documents or go to the Justice Department's websiteand read the case files of the violent crimes committed on January 6, 2021. Read through the transcripts we posted publicly, review the emails, and listen to the radio traffic. Read through the Justice Department's files about the criminals who pleaded or were found guilty for crimes such as striking law enforcement officers with flagpoles; tasing them; pepper spraying them; using their police equipment, like batons, against them; throwing fire extinguishers, chairs, desks, firecrackers, PVC pipes, and more, at the officers; and engaging in physical combat, described as 'something from a Medieval battle' by a Sergeant.
"On January 6, 2021, there was a serious attack on our Capitol and our democracy. I will continue to tell the truth about it, and remain undaunted by threats."
