Manchin Announces $598K for 13 Projects to Promote Public Safety Across West Virginia

Washington, DC - Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $598,146 from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) for thirteen projects to promote public safety and support law enforcement across West Virginia. The funding will provide essential equipment, training and technology upgrades to law enforcement departments throughout West Virginia.

"I'm pleased that DOJ is investing over $598K in supporting West Virginia's law enforcement and public safety," said Senator Manchin. "All West Virginians deserve to feel safe and welcomed in their communities, and I look forward to seeing the positive impacts of this funding. Individual awards listed below:

• $301,000 - City of Charleston
• • This funding will support a public safety upgrade along public walkways, streets and alleys as part of the Leon Sullivan Way Safety Initiative.
• $58,859 - City of Charleston
• • This funding will be used to purchase equipment for the City of Charleston Police Department.
• $53,275 - City of Huntington
• • This funding will be used to purchase equipment for the Cabell County Sheriff's Department and provide overtime for directed patrols and community policing initiatives.
• $28,536 - Putnam County Commission
• • This funding will be used to purchase equipment for the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.
• $21,779 - City of Beckley
• • This funding will be used to purchase equipment for the Beckley Police Department.
• $20,774 - City of Parkersburg
• • This funding will be used to purchase equipment for the Parkersburg Police Department.
• $19,379 - City of Bluefield
• • This funding will be used to purchase supplies to prevent and reduce violent crime.
• $19,379 - Raleigh County Commission
• • This funding will be used to purchase a new Live Scan System.
• $16,809 - Logan County Commission
• • This funding will be used to update and modernize the Record Management Systems (RMS) for FY 2024 JAG funds.
• $16,138 - Berkeley County Commission
• • This funding will be used to purchase communication radios for the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department.
• $14,855 - Mercer County Commission
• • This funding will be used to support the Project Lifesaver Program, which is designed to protect individuals with cognitive disorders.
• $13,960 - County of Wyoming
• • This funding will be used to purchase equipment for the Wyoming County Sheriff's Department.
• $13,403 - City of Morgantown
• • This funding will be used to purchase equipment for the Morgantown Police Department.
