Public Invited to Attend Fire Station 9 Public Art Presentations

Finalists for the new Fire Station 9 public art project will present their design concepts to the Quality of Life/Las Cruces Public Art selection committee on Tuesday, July 23.

The three finalists will present their design concepts beginning at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, in Conference Room 2007A at City Hall, 700 N. Main St. The public is welcome to attend the presentations.

Artists are tasked with designing an art concept proposal that meets various criteria such as evocative of the history and spirit of the local firefighting community, adds identity to the fire station and neighborhood, serves as a focal point of the fire station, and is visible from several vantage points.

Finalists were selected by the art selection committee from a pool of 118 submissions to the Fire Station 9 call for artists. Each presentation is allocated 30 minutes per artist; first presenter is scheduled at 4 p.m., second presenter at 4:45 p.m. and third presenter at 5:30 p.m.

The art selection committee will meet after the presentations to deliberate and choose their recommendation for the fire station. The selected design will then be presented for final approval to the City Art Board and Las Cruces City Council, respectively.
