Texan Soccer embarks on two-game road trip against Panthers and Lions

STEPHENVILLE, Texas - Tarleton State Soccer heads back on the road with a pair of road games at Prairie View A&M on Friday night and Texas A&M-Commerce on Sunday night.
Friday's match against the Panthers will be streamed on YouTube at 7 p.m. at the Panther Soccer Field. Sunday's match against the Lions will be streamed on ESPN+ at 7 p.m. at Lion Soccer Field. Last week the Texans earned a win, loss and a draw all at home. The Texans started the week with a 1-1 draw against UTRGV on Tuesday night. On Thursday, the squad routed Austin College, 8-0. The team concluded the week with a nail-biting loss to Houston, 1-0, as they scored in the 83rd minute.
The Texans had a record setting night earning their first win of the season last Thursday against Austin College. As a team, Tarleton set new single game records with 46 shots, 23 shots on goal, 17 corner kicks, eight goals and six assists. Freshman Una Hlynsdóttir and junior each netted their first collegiate goals during the contest. knocked in the Texans' second penalty kick in program history.
Sophomore set numerous individual records as well. Grissom notched the first hat trick in program history, ending the night with four goals. She is one of three players this season in Division I to accomplish that feat. Her eight points, ranks second in the nation in a single game.
Goalkeeper leads the nation with 405 minutes played, the most by any goalie. She touts a 0.67 GAA with 26 saves. She is credited with one solo shutout and one combined shutout with on Thursday night. On Sunday, she posted 13 saves, the second highest mark of her Texan career.
Grissom ranks top 25 nationally in two different categories. On the season, her four goals are tied for 10th in the country and leads the WAC. She ranks 24th in the nation with eight points and is second in the league
leads the WAC and ranks 15th in the NCAA with three assists. She notched her second career two-assist game with a pair against the Kangaroos on Thursday.
Tarleton is one of nine teams in the nation to have played five games after two weeks of competition. The Texans three draws is tied with Louisiana Tech for the most in the country.
The Texans are 6-6-5 against Texas schools in program history. Last season, the Texans earned a pair of victories of PVAMU (5-0) and Texas A&M-Commerce (2-0) in their first meeting with each program.
The Texans welcome back 17 players from a season ago, filling their 27-woman roster with 10 newcomers. Tarleton's roster encompasses eight international-born players, the tenth most in NCAA Division I Women's Soccer. The Purple and White internation contingent includes one of nine D1 Australian-born players and two of 13 Iceland-born athletes.
Cuadrado has built his program from the ground up, with this year being the first season he has more upperclassmen on the roster, boosting 14 juniors and seniors and 13 freshman and sophomores. He has 13 players on the 2024 squad that were a part of his inaugural 2022 campaign.

Head coach is in his 21st season as a collegiate head coach with Tarleton his third stop on his journey. He started his career at North Dakota State before spending time at Wyoming. During his career, he has amassed 179 wins, with 11 of those coming in the first two seasons of the Tarleton program.
Cuadrado retained both of his assistants from the previous two seasons and added a new face to the staff ahead of the 2024 campaign. Assistant coaches and will be on the sidelines for their third season, while Carrell was also a part of the building of the team in 2021, marking 2024 his fourth year with the program. Cuadrado added Stephenville native and retired professional soccer player Bailey Chaviers ahead of the season. Chaviers spent three years at The U, before heading overseas to play two seasons in Iceland. She then returned to the United State for the 2023 season but was injured during the preseason for the Chicago Red Stars.
Tarleton will return home for a Thursday night contest against Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and as always admission is free to the Tarleton Soccer Complex.
