Banking Commissioner Jorge Perez Announces the Opening of a Request for Information to Designate Martin Luther King, Jr. Corridors in the State

HARTFORD - Banking Commissioner Jorge Perez announces the opening of a Request for Information (RFI) to designate Martin Luther King, Jr. Corridors in Connecticut.

Public Act 24-23 allows for the designation of seven Martin Luther King (MLK) Corridors to promote secured and unsecured lending in the state with the intention of stimulating economic development within corridors named for Martin Luther King, Jr. The designation may also provide additional weight for applicants for future state grants and funding.

"This is an opportunity to help stimulate economic activity," said Banking Commissioner Jorge Perez. "These designations will allow for creative solutions to stimulate economic activity in these corridors including various types of lending. The designation is intended to assist municipalities and other organizations when applying for future grant funding."

The Department of Banking is seeking applications from municipalities, local chambers of commerce, community groups and other organizations committed to growing the local economy in their communities. Completed applications should include a cover letter, a map of the proposed designated area, a plan to promote economic development in the proposed area and local letters of support from the local legislative body and chief elected officers and who have experience in this area, among other criteria.
