Community Update from the City of Fort Pierce: Supporting FPUA’s Lead-Free Initiative

As one of the oldest historic cities on the Treasure Coast, Fort Pierce takes pride in preserving our heritage while supporting efforts that enhance community health and safety. The Fort Pierce Utilities Authority (FPUA) is leading the charge with its Water Service Line Inventory initiative, working to identify and replace lead or galvanized pipes throughout the public water system, and to guide property owners looking to replace privately owned pipes.

FPUA's initiative, aligned with the Lead & Copper Rule, involves developing a historical inventory by reviewing building records and inspecting water service lines throughout Fort Pierce. This vital work ensures that our community continues to have safe, clean drinking water and modernizes our infrastructure to meet current safety standards.

If you receive a notification letter from FPUA, please follow the provided instructions and visit www.FPUA.com/Lead-Copper for more information. There, you can check your property's status on the interactive map, complete a customer survey, and learn more about FPUA's progress toward a lead-free community.

Additionally, FPUA has already replaced and will continue to replace any verified lead or galvanized pipes in publicly owned sections immediately. The City of Fort Pierce and FPUA are also working together to explore funding options to assist homeowners who may need to replace privately owned pipes. While funding is not yet available, if this changes, you will be notified as soon as possible.

For questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to FPUA directly at [email protected]. By working together, we are helping Fort Pierce remain a cherished historic city while prioritizing the well-being of our residents.
