Here are places to go and tips to ‘beat the heat’ this summer

Sacramento is set to experience high temperatures in the coming days, and residents are encouraged to visit City spray parks, pools, and community centers to beat the heat.

Pool and spray parks

  • Pools: North Natomas Aquatics Complex and 11 other lifeguarded pools are open for recreational swim and aquatics programming.
  • Free play/wading pools: Four pools are available for children under 7.
  • Spray parks: Open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Labor Day. A list of locations is available here.

Community Centers

Community centers are open weekdays for air-conditioned relief, with some also open on Saturdays. Please note community centers close for the Fourth of July.

  • Belle Cooledge Community Center (Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
  • Clunie Community Center (Tuesday- Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
  • Coloma Community Center (Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. | Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon)
  • George Sim Community Center (Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. | Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon)
  • Hart Senior Center (Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
  • Joe Mims Jr. Hagginwood Community Center (Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. | Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon)
  • Oak Park Community Center (Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. | Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon)
  • Sam and Bonnie Pannell Community Center (Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. | Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon)
  • South Natomas Community Center (Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. | Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon)

Libraries

Most Sacramento libraries are open during normal business hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Please note libraries will close for Fourth of July. Check the library website for details.

Cooling Centers

The City is activating cooling centers to offer relief from the heat. SacRT is providing free rides to cooling centers with the flyer provided.

Tips to stay safe

  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Take cool showers.
  • Always wear a life jacket in waterways.
  • Limit your pets' exposure outside and on hot sidewalks.
  • Never leave infants or pets inside cars.
  • Wear lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing.
