British Heart Foundation and partner PureGym host launch event for Healthy Hearts Programme

To celebrate the launch of our joint Healthy Hearts Programme, together with PureGym, we teamed up to unveil the new programme at an event on Thursday 3rd October.

Taking place in Shoreditch, the launch event saw industry social media influencers, BHF staff and PureGym members come together to learn about the app from its creators. Speaking at the event were one of our Senior Cardiac Nurses, Ruth Goss, our Senior Dietitian Tracy Parker and PureGym's Group Marketing Officer Stephen Rowe. Fraser Franks, former footballer and BHF supporter also shared his own heart story.

The Healthy Hearts Programme

The innovative, free Healthy Hearts Programme is now available as part of the PureGym app. With access for both members and non-members, the eight-week progressive programme supports users who want to pursue a heart healthy lifestyle by guiding them through heart healthy exercises, recipes and resources.

Created by PureGym's fitness professionals and our cardiac specialists, the programme offers recipes from BHF's dietitians, work-outs from PureGym's personal trainers and information and support on how best to look after your heart.

Fraser's heart story

Fraser Franks, a former professional footballer and father, underwent open heart surgery due to a congenital heart condition in September 2023. Fraser spoke on the event's panel about how his life changed after his devastating diagnosis of a unicuspid aortic valve which ended his football career aged 28. He went on to thank us for the millions of pounds we fund into pioneering research that helps find cures and treatments for people affected by heart and circulatory diseases and gives families like Frasers more time with their loved ones.

A word from PureGym

Rebecca Passmore, UK Managing Director at PureGym said: "We're very excited about the launch of our Healthy Hearts Programme. By using our expertise, combined with the invaluable information on the heart provided to us by the BHF, we want to support and educate the public on how to implement a heart healthy lifestyle."

"Accessibility is key and that's why we want to make sure everyone has access to relevant health information, no matter their fitness journey."

Working together in their mission to tackle the UK's heart health, the BHF and PureGym joined forces in February 2022 as part of a multi-million-pound charity partnership.

Since then, they have worked together on a number of activities and products all aimed at tackling heart and circulatory diseases - the leading cause of global deaths that currently affect the lives of 7.6 million people and their families in the UK.
