The Council of Europe to welcome the Paralympic Torch on 25 August

On arrival in France, the Paralympic Flame will be divided into 12 Flames to be welcomed simultaneously in the same number of locations, including Strasbourg. The Council of Europe will welcome the Paris 2024 Paralympic Torch on Sunday 25 August, prior to its journey to Paris for the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games on 28 August.

The Paralympic Torch will be celebrated with music and a series of speeches by representatives of the Council of Europe and the French authorities from 3 pm on the lower forecourt of the Palais de l'Europe.

The first torch will be lit in front of the Council of Europe at 3.30 pm, kicking off the 7.5 km Paralympic Torch Relay in the Parc de l'Orangerie before the lighting of the cauldron.

To mark the occasion, a Council of Europe stand will be open to the general public from 10 am to 6 pm in the Paralympic Village in the Parc de l'Orangerie, providing information about its activities, particularly in the field of sport.

The exhibition on the Council of Europe's European Sports Charter and the Olympic Charter, currently on display in front of the Agora building, will also be presented on the stand.

On 26 June this year, the Council of Europe was already host to the Olympic Torch Relay in its hemicycle in an unprecedented event.

For over fifty years, the Council of Europe, which is the main organisation to champion democracy and human rights in Europe, has advocated fair-play and respect in sport through its work, in particular through its enlarged partial agreement on sport (EPAS) to make sport healthy, ethical and accessible to all.
