Elgin Selects Official Holiday Tree for 2024 Festivities

The City of Elgin has selected its official holiday tree for 2024, which will be the focal point of the city's seasonal celebrations at the newly renovated DuPage Court in downtown Elgin.

Last month, Elgin called for community submissions to help find the ideal holiday tree. Criteria included:

  • Height between 30 and 50 feet for a grand appearance.
  • Location within 30 miles of Elgin for convenient transport.
  • Healthy, vibrant foliage.
  • Preference for Norway spruce, Colorado blue spruce, or fir trees. Pine trees were not accepted.

After receiving an enthusiastic response, the city selected a Blue Spruce tree, generously donated by Bryan and Debby McMahan from West Dundee. Both Bryan and Debby also have a deep connection to Elgin: Bryan retired after working 30 years for the City of Elgin, and Debby has been employed with the City of Elgin for the past 20 years.

The tree will be unveiled at Elgin's 2024 Tree Lighting Ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 5 p.m. in DuPage Court. Residents and visitors are invited to this free event to join Mayor David Kaptain, City Council members, and Santa as they illuminate the season.
