Statewide - 6 NYCRR Part 44 to amend the regulations governing the management of Jonah Crab

Pursuant to the Environmental Conservation Law sections 13-0105 and 13-0331, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) hereby gives notice of the following:

NYS DEC is filing a Notice of Adoption to amend 6 NYCRR Part 44 to amend the regulations governing the management of Jonah Crab. This rulemaking will define the Jonah Crab directed trap fishery and establish bycatch limits. These rules are needed to bring New York into compliance with the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) Jonah Crab fisheries management plan (FMP). These amendments are intended to protect Jonah Crab and are consistent with requirements of the ASMFC FMP.

This notice will be published in issue 26 of the State Register, dated June 26, 2024.
