GCSU, four players earn ITA academic awards

TEMPE, Ariz. | The Georgia College & State University men's tennis team has been recognized as an All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, while players Reid Bissell, Gabe Cizek, Rodrigo Pérez Crespo and Braxton Wright were named Scholar-Athletes by the organization.

The Bobcats, who were one of 78 NCAA Division II institutions recognized by the ITA, had a 3.33 cumulative grade-point average as a team this year. To be named an All-Academic team, a program had to have a 3.20 GPA. It was the fifth time in the past six years that GCSU has been named an All-Academic Team by the ITA.

Bissell, a freshman from Norcross, Georgia, has a 3.69 GPA as a finance major, while Cizek, a junior from Prague, Czech Republic, posted a 4.00 GPA as an exercise major. Perez Crespo, a sophomore from Ourense, Spain, tallied a 3.63 GPA as a marketing major, while Wright, a sophomore from Cumming, Georgia, collected a 3.63 GPA as a management major. It is the third ITA Scholar-Athlete honor for Cizek, while it is the second for Perez Crespo.

To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, the player must have a 3.50 GPA for the current academic year.
