Ivanović, Felten: Strong German support for Montenegro's European aspirations

Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović met today with the German Ambassador to Montenegro, H.E. Peter Felten. During the open and constructive discussion, the importance of further strengthening bilateral cooperation between Montenegro and Germany was emphasised, with a particular focus on economic and political relations.

Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović expressed gratitude for Germany's continuous support for Montenegro's European path, which was recently reaffirmed during the visit of Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock. He highlighted that Montenegro is showing exceptional commitment and enthusiasm towards closing all negotiation chapters by the end of 2026, and he expressed hope that Germany would continue to provide crucial political and expert support in this process.

Ambassador Felten confirmed Germany's strong support for Montenegro's European aspirations, stating that if Montenegro maintains its current reform momentum, it would be more than welcome in the European community. He also emphasised that Montenegro could serve as a model for other candidate countries on their path to European integration.

Particular emphasis was placed on the significance of the Berlin Process, which plays a key role in strengthening regional cooperation and connecting the Western Balkan countries with the European Union. On this occasion, the exceptional importance of the Federal Government of Germany's clear and consistent support for the European perspective of the region was highlighted.

At the end of the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović and Ambassador Felten exchanged views on current regional issues, reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation and stability in the Western Balkans.
