A Letter From Arturo Vargas as We Head Into Election 2024

Dear NALEO Members and Partners,

Like you, I have been thinking a great deal about the future of our country as we head into another consequential presidential election, perhaps the most consequential of our lifetime. In my 30 years with NALEO Educational Fund, I have not seen such a deep sense of uncertainty and angst among our fellow citizens as we head toward Election Day.

Sometimes, it can feel as if these anxieties have eroded the fabric of our civility and ability to communicate with one another constructively. It can seem like we cannot talk to each other, find common ground, and champion consensus.

But when I sense this pessimism peaking over our shoulders, I remember how preserving our democracy, working together, and focusing on the future has never been easy.

So, as we head into another Election Day, we should be both realistic and ready to do our part in being there for our communities.

Here is what we know: November 5, and especially the days and weeks after it, will likely be marked by a volatile political environment riddled with misinformation and provocative posturing. As states tabulate early votes, vote-by-mail ballots, and Election Day votes, it will take a while before we see contest winners and the role of Latino voters in those outcomes.
