NORD COMMISSION ANNOUNCES ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

NEW ORLEANS - The New Orleans Recreation Development (NORD) Commission is thrilled to launch its first-ever Athlete of the Week program, recognizing outstanding youth athletes from both NORD Commission's youth and middle schools tackle football leagues throughout the season. This 11-week initiative will highlight athletes who demonstrate exceptional skill, leadership, and sportsmanship, with nominees selected by coaches and NORD Commission officials. Each week's honoree will be featured on WGNO's Friday Night Football, airing at 11 p.m.

First Athlete of the Week: Myron Orlando Johnson, III

This week, NORD Commission is proud to congratulate Myron Orlando Johnson, III, a 10-year-old quarterback for the Milne Raiders. Myron, who is in the 5th grade and attends Arthur Ashe Charter School. He led his team to an impressive season opener victory against the Willie Hall Panthers. In addition to excelling in football, Myron also plays baseball for the New Orleans Monarchs, drawing inspiration from his favorite athletes Lamar Jackson, Shoai Ohtani, and Kobe Bryant.

The Athlete of the Week program will continue to highlight the achievements of young athletes from both NORD Commission leagues and local middle schools. We look forward to celebrating the contributions of more remarkable students throughout the season.

Congratulations to Myron for his exceptional performance on the field and for being a leader among his peers. We are excited to watch more young athletes like him excel in the weeks to come.
