Gloria Administration Secures Over $1 Billion in Grant Funding During First Term

SAN DIEGO - Mayor Todd Gloria announced today that his administration has eclipsed $1 billion in grant awards secured since taking office in December 2020. Over the course of its first term, the Gloria Administration has secured 293 grant awards, resulting in more than $1 billion in various federal, state, and local investments.

The federal, state, and regional grants have funded a wide variety of City priorities and activities such as economic development, emergency preparedness, homeless services, road and bridge repair, public safety, and water reliability.

"I vowed that San Diego would compete with America's other large cities and get our fair share of dollars out of Sacramento and Washington, D.C. We have fulfilled that promise. The City's aggressive pursuit of federal, state and regional resources has been incredibly successful in helping us build more housing, get unsheltered San Diegans off the streets, fixing the damn roads, and more," said Mayor Todd Gloria. "I want to thank our delegations in Sacramento and Washington, D.C., for being great partners in our work to move San Diego forward. This is progress, but we will keep our foot on the pedal to ensure the best quality of life for all San Diegans."

The Gloria Administration has made critical investments to support the City's pursuit, development, and implementation of grant funding. The Mayor has hired two full-time grant coordinators, launched an improved software solution for approving citywide applications and awards, and created a regional working group to collaborate on infrastructure grant opportunities.
