Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senators Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) and Jon Ossoff (D-G) announced nearly $30 million in federal funding for transportation infrastructure upgrades in seven localities across Georgia. The federal funding will help fund projects across the state aimed at upgrading sidewalks, installing new street lighting and signage, creating buffered cycling lanes, upgrading stormwater drainage, and funding critical planning phases for future projects. The funding was made possible by the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) program that was established by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

"As a member of the Senate committee overseeing our nation's transportation policy, it is of paramount importance to me to secure federal funding for Georgia communities that will bolster connectivity and more efficient commutes, and ensureall folks have accessibility to get where they are going more safely-and that is exactly what these new investments will do," said Senator Warnock. "This is exactly the kind of progress Senator Ossoff and I had in mind when we worked to pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and I'm glad to see the benefits of that law continue flowing to our state."

The City of Atlanta is set to receive $16,000,000 for new sidewalks, buffered cycling lanes, sidewalk improvements, disability bus stop enhancements, lighting, and stormwater updates along Johnson Road, West Marietta Street, Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard, Brady Avenue and 10th Street. The City of LaFayette will receive over $6,000,000 for upgrades along Villanow Street between Chattanooga Street and Duke Street. The project includes a road diet, ADA sidewalks and ramps, new lighting and signage, and other transportation upgrades.

"Since taking office, expanding and improving transportation and road safety across Georgia has been a top priority for Senator Warnock and me," Senator Ossoff said. "Our bipartisan infrastructure law continues delivering long-overdue investments for Georgia's infrastructure to ensure pedestrian and commuter safety for generations to come."

The RAISE discretionary grant program was established under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law in 2021. In 2022, RAISE funded 166 projects in all 50 states. $1.5 billion was available in grant funding for 2023. As a member of the Senate Commerce Committee, Senator Warnock fought to authorize the RAISE grant program in the Surface Transportation Investment Act of 2021 (STIA), and ensure the popular program received robust funding when STIA was included as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
