Two Men Arrested For Loanshark Harassment

The Police have arrested two men, aged 24 and 31, for their suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.

On 9 September 2024 at about 1.45am, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Jurong West Street 42, where the main gate of a residential unit was splashed with red paint and a debtor's note was left behind outside the unit.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identities of the two men and arrested them on the same day.

Both men will be charged in court on 10 September 2024 under the Moneylenders Act 2008. For first time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to five years and caning of up to six strokes.

The Police have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities. Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance or disrupt public safety, peace and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.
