Public Invited to Workshop on Safety Improvements for Route 53 & Route 37 Intersection in Danbury

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will host an in-person public workshop to discuss safety and mobility improvements to the intersection at Main Street (Route 53) and Downs Street and North Street (Route 37) in Danbury on Monday, August 12, 2024, at St. Joseph Church Hall at 376 Main Street in Danbury from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

The workshop will present existing conditions data-including traffic volumes, roadway conditions, and existing deficiencies-to implement intersection improvements at Main Street (Route 53) and Downs Street and North Street (Route 37).

"This public workshop provides an opportunity for Danbury community residents, leaders, and business owners to share their experiences at this intersection with the CTDOT project team," said Connecticut Department of Transportation Project Manager Kevin Burnham. "Our project team members will be present to discuss the current intersection challenges and present possible solutions. We encourage the public to help inform future design decisions aimed at improving safety, mobility, and operation at this intersection."

Improvements to this intersection have been identified as an early-action project by the I-84 Danbury Planning and Environment Linkages (PEL) Study. CTDOT is performing the PEL study to research ways to improve mobility and reduce congestion on I-84 between the New York State line and Interchange 8 in Danbury. The PEL study is expected to conclude in fall 2024.
